The Challenge
What needed to be solved.
Bharosa Neuro Psychiatry Hospitals needed a patient-facing mobile app that could simplify access to mental health care — a space where patients often face stigma, confusion about specialists, and difficulty booking appointments. They wanted features like verified doctor profiles, flexible scheduling (morning/afternoon/evening slots), an AI assistant for guidance, and critically — a way for users to talk to a counselor anonymously without signing up, removing the fear barrier entirely.
The Approach
How I built the solution.
Built with React Native and Expo for a single codebase deployed to both iOS and Android. Designed the home screen around quick actions — Book Appointment, Video Consult, Mental Health Check, and Hospital Admission. Implemented a doctor discovery system with verified profiles showing experience, specialties, ratings, and real-time slot availability. Built MAAYA, an AI-powered assistant that helps users book appointments, check availability, and get supportive mental health guidance through natural conversation. Added an anonymous counselor chat where users can connect to a real doctor without revealing their identity. Integrated a blog/content system for mental health articles and self-care resources. The backend runs on Node.js with PostgreSQL, Firebase for push notifications and auth, and a payments system with voucher code support.
